Strike Benefits Are Now Payable from Day 1 of a Strike

The IBT Convention overwhelmingly voted to approve an amendment making strike benefits payable from the 1st day of a strike, rather than the 8th day, as it has been until now.

Fred Zuckerman made this same amendment in 2016, and the O’Brien Zuckerman Teamsters United slate made it a part of the platform.

Peter Finn of San Francisco Local 856 spoke first on it, opening with “When members make the decision to go on strike, they need to know we have their backs, from Day One.”

The motion passed overwhelmingly.

Strike benefit amounts remain the same: five times the monthly dues, paid weekly.
